Assuming one could "rate" knowledge on a limited basis...100% being the
top you could go to...let's say that any given IBCLC has 80% of this
knowledge and someone else (more lay-) has 25% knowledge...what's to say
that part or most of that 25% doesn't include things that the IBCLC
doesn't know about? No one is a living encyclopaedia (though some
people do better at it), no one can remember everything, and someone who
has zip-all "real training" in bf matters might have read something very
important somewhere that is very pertinent to a case that is presented
by an IBCLC or someone equivelant.

Like you said, we all start somewhere, and it's a good place to
start...with our teachers being the professionals of the field...but
I've had teachers that I've shown new things to, and it takes a good
teacher to be able to admit that they DON'T know everything, and that
yes some of their students have taught them some things over the years.

Sometimes it's not even a case of "X person TAUGHT me this" more so much
as "X person made me think TWICE about this, and look further, and we
found something else out...not because X person knew about it, but
because they said something that twigged me to dig deeper".
