Because breastfeeding is something we all feel so strongly about, it
provides enough emotional dynamite on this list, which is why the Lactnet
guidelines include 'staying on topic'. In recent days a couple of other
topics have been discussed here which are known to elicit hot debate that
rapidly takes our focus away from the reason this list exists, viz: to
discuss breastfeeding support. While breastfeeding support can be viewed
broadly, the breadth of the view does not extend to a discussion of which
specialty physician group in the US does the most surgical procedures on
male infant foreskins, nor does it extend to a detailed discussion of the
evidence about routine immunization.
To reiterate: Topics other than breastfeeding itself can be discussed here
inasmuch as they impinge on, or spin out in tangents from, breastfeeding. We
welcome such threads *as long as they are clearly related to breastfeeding*.
Furthermore, we continue to expect subscribers to participate according to
the ground rules for polite discussion, taking care to distinguish between
the *issues* and the *people* expressing their views upon them.

the vernal equinox by taking a dip in the Arctic Ocean for the first time in
my life, and heard a top-flight concert by Joyce Moreno and her band, while
at a professional meeting here this weekend
