I need some support at my job as WIC Bfing Coordinator. Up until now I
have been proud to be the administrator of a program that allowed moms
to be with their children while helping other moms. That "luxury" has
been revoked and their children will no longer be allowed, this makes me
very sad :( This has been an issue for my director. Some mom's are
better at watching their children then others and she feels we need to
treat them all the same to avoid resentments etc. She has agreed that
babes in arms are fine. She will not budge on this issue otherwise,
says it is a liability issue. She has even gone so far as to "survey"
other programs and reports she found that children are not allowed.
I know that my LLL Leader background has a definate influence here. In
my heart and soul I believe babies and their mothers belong together. I
feel badly because when I hired these peer counselors I specifically
told them they could bring their children. I have great difficulty
accepting this new condition, I don't feel women should have to make
that choice and that we will potentially lose great peer counselors
because of it.

While I am saddened by this new limitation, I am also curious how other
programs handle the peer counselor program. Am I truly the only program
that was allowing children at the clinic?
