Dear Margery, Thank you for your feedback. The foods contained more salt
were not necessarily salty foods. The researchers analyzed the sodium
contents of common foods including cheeses and vegetables. The lactating
mothers come out on the sodium scoreboard consistingly lower than the
non-lactating mothers. The Bf moms also more often reported that the soup
solutions they tasted were salty as opposed to the non BF mothers. THis
professor spends his whole life studing salt. You are right ...it would be interesting and
validating to do a post-lactation study...but I think the funding won't last.
THese are only preliminary findings....when all the statistics are finished I will update this
post. When he goes to publish I will suggest he send it to the JHL. Anybody else have any
thoughts? Thanks, Toby
