Please join the Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health, Region X in celebration of our 2009 Award recipients.

We are pleased this event includes a 90 minute lecture by Julie Reeder, PhD, MPH, MS, CHES, Senior Research Analyst with the State of Oregon WIC program. “What Influences a Mother’s Decisions about Breastfeeding: The Reasons behind the Reasons” will educate the audience about the findings of a five year study of nearly 2,000 mothers enrolled in the Oregon WIC program. CERPS have been applied for. Cost for this event is $30.

At the end of the lecture participants will:

    • Describe the most common breastfeeding issues and concerns expressed by mothers in the prenatal period.
    • Identify the most common time periods when mothers introduce formula or stop breastfeeding altogether.
    • Analyze the reasons mothers gave for introducing formula.
    • Critically evaluate the impact of breastfeeding peer counseling.
