I certainly hear what you are saying and I do sympathize! Some parents just need
a quick fix and even a placebo will do. I agree that this is complex...probably
societally induced as much as anything. Believe it or not....I once suggested
mylicon to someone. She claimed it worked. Some things work if we believe they
will.

I do also believe, however, that it is tempting to buy the advertiser's claims
rather than to do our own library time. This is true for parents as well as
doctors and...the care of an infant should be a partnership between them.

There is one MD I work with who will say to parents who ask about Mylicon "Well,
the research shows it doesn't help but...if it will make you feel better to give
it it probably won't hurt either." Sometimes I think that is the kind of answer
a parent needs. One that reveals the truth without making one feel stupid or
guilty (there's that word again) for wanting to try.
