I wonder if it's just the fact that they haven't had bowel movements
before and they are just reacting to the new sensation.  If you think
about it, practically everything a newborn is experiencing, even many of
their own body functions, is completely new.  I've always figured that's
why it seems to take them a few weeks to take it all in before they
"wake up to the world."
