In my class on Myths and Old Wives' Tales, I point out that they arise out
of a few people's experience, so there is usually a grain of truth in them,
but it has been blown up, distorted and generalised.

I knew a mother whose milk "disappeared" for a day when her father died.
She just carried on, and it "came back". I think that under stressful
conditions, let downs are delayed, and it seems like there is "no milk"
because the baby is frustrated and hungry. If moms know about this, they
can consciously relax, get support to do so, and knowing that the milk is
actually there will help it come.
