Hello Lactneters:
PTP. I saw a client today with an 11 day old baby, her second. She is exclusively breastfeeding and reports having a lot of milk. She has accessory breast tissue with a patent nipple under one arm. Her ob told her to not rub or squeeze it and to keep it bound up. Mom reports it being very full, hard, warm to the touch and painful. She says that she sometimes does squeeze milk out when it is too painful to stand. Is it possible to develop mastisis in acessory tissue? Would expressing just enough to stay comfortable an appropriate suggestion?
She also seems very interested in having it removed. Any information/experience regarding this is welcomed and appreciated!
Thanks for your thoughts and insight.
Best,
Amy
