I agree that the woman should pump if she feels she needs to wean, but
the woman with whom she works (the original poster) needs to realise
that Chinese medicine can take some time before it is effective. In
my encounters with Chinese physicians, they are often eager to see
women wean when the baby is one year old, especially if they see liver
issues, such as an unbalanced liver chi (spelling I don't think is
right.) I can provide the email address and phone number of a Chinese
physician in Boulder, Colorado whose wife nursed for a long time. He
is more supportive of the need to live life in an uncomplicated manner
than others I have met, in that he supports child led weaning and
using herbs as tablets rather than the labor (and taste!) intensive
herbs. Email privately if you wish.

I hope she cuts out coffee, chocolate, spicy foods and MSG before
weaning. She can drink green tea. I found those very helpful for my
unbalanced liver chi. qui? Fluids are very important for that
condition, and chinese physicians have always been interested in my
addiction to swimming as that is a form of "self medication"-
immersion in water.

I probably won't go to the LLLI Conference because I just went to
DisneyWorld and don't like the thought of going to Florida in the
summer. Why did they do that? It's *hot* then. IME, btw, it's
harder to avoid Nestle' products at Disneyland than at Disneyworld.

Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to
make all of them yourself.
