Hello All

Our milk bank will be starting to supply donor milk to an 8 month old with
short gut after NEC repair.  Born 25 weeks gestation, now about 5 months
corrected, not yet on solids, not latching, mostly tube fed.

Mum used to be a donor but after months of procedures and stress and no
latching, her supply has dwindled to about half of the baby's needs, and
she has almost finished her freezer stash.

The paed has insisted that 20% of the baby's milk should be a hydrolysed
formula for malabsorption issues (also used for allergies, which this baby
doesn't have).  While this takes some of the pressure off the milk bank,
the very idea that this could be better than straight breast milk doesn't
sit well with me.   Baby is putting on about 100g per week, and is strictly
on 110 mls every 3 hours (sigh, a whole new issue.... how can feeding
prescribed like this be called fun?)

This is my first non-NICU NEC baby, though.  What do the rest of us know?
