<I am looking for an article posted by a Jane Koterman which deals with
Reverse Pressure Cycle (RPC), I was told I can find it on LACTNET on

After the early postings on Lactnet and helpful feedback from many of you
while I was developing my ideas on Reverse Pressure Softening, I have
since written several articles (info below).

My ideas on the technique are still in progress. I have seen comments on
LN recently and received several private posts in the last few months
with comments and questions. I welcome any feedback, (especially negative
so that I can help find answers to those questions and write for other
disciplines.) Those who posted privately have given me permission to
share on LN, and I am compiling an answer to various questions for LN
soon.

Several websites have graciously put up my first short, illustrated 2002
article on RPS: www.health-e-learning.com, www.breastfeedingonline.com
and www.kellymom.com, (where it is available in Swedish as well as
English). It has also been translated into 5-6 other languages in
publications in other countries or on websites. Translation into yet more
languages is in progress. Those interested can contact me privately if
you need to read it in another language. (Does anyone want to volunteer
to translate this 2002 article into Portuguese? Or any other language?

A longer 2003 article illustrated with diagrams is:
Cotterman, KJ, Too swollen to latch on?: try Reverse Pressure Softening
first, Leaven Apr. May 2003, pp. 38-40.
The text, (without the illustrations) is available through the La Leche
League website, and they own the copyright.
A longer, more detailed professional article illustrated with photos
appeared last year in JHL. To my knowledge it is not available on line.
Sage Publishing owns the copyright.
Cotterman KJ, Reverse Pressure Softening: A Simple Tool to Prepare Areola
for Easier Latching During Engorgement, Journal of Human Lactation, May
2004, vol. 20, iss. 2, pp. 227-237.
A newer illustrated 2004 patient instruction sheet for reproduction for
non-commercial purposes was published in the syllabus for the 2004 ILCA
convention to serve as a reference for my talk there. This sheet is also
available through Lactation Education Consultants as one of a set of
their masters, enclosed in plastic sleeves, all of which can be
reproduced for non-commercial purposes. The cost of $4 covers the charge
of printing, handling and mailing the packet of masters. Contact Jan
Barger at [log in to unmask] to order. (I have no financial connection, but I
thank LEC and Jan for making it available. It was she who first asked me
to write the article for their newsletter, no longer printed.)
There are now also references and mention of RPS in at least 4
breastfeeding books and texts. I appreciate the help of everyone in
spreading the word and the availability of references about the technique
to medical, nursing and other professional colleagues as well as parents.
