Hi all! Happy 4th
While strolling the booths outside a recent conference room, I couldn't help
myself. I approached a ABM rep and asked about their new "advance" formula
now on the market in Canada. He moved me aside and pushed me on my source.
(Thanks Lactnetters). He did not know my background or passion on the whole
subject. He kept asking HOW I knew about this but I skirted the issue hoping
to gain more info. Sure enough he stated the party line about fully
supporting breastfeeding, etc. And now his great company had found the key
ingredients found in breastmilk that help in fighting off infection and put
them into the new "advance" formula. The buzz word is NUCLEOTIDES. So,
innocent me asked how they were going to advertise/promote this product,
waiting for that key word...GUILT. Sure enough he didn't disappoint me.
implying that now moms can get some of the health benefits found in
breastmilk out of a can. YUCK. I also found that this product is set to start
selling next month in 3 US cities... Tucson, Cedar Rapids, and I can't
remember the last. Look out.
On one side I feel that it is good that they are continuing to try to improve
the alternative to breastmilk BUT if its marketing in any way implys that it
is equivalent or uses the ol' "you shouldn't feel guilty now" tactic I'll be
real disappointed (but not surprised).

that abound)
