PTP. I talked with a mom today who can pump a normal 3oz out of her right
breast, when her left breast will yield 17oz. That is not a typo. She has
tried using R more than L, and a modified form of block feeding, but as a
result she experiences engorgement, clogged ducts, and pain. We talked
about doing full drainage on that side, but she is not sure she can manage,
because the breast is never empty. The flow just doesn't stop. 17oz is
pumping to comfort. To further complicate things, she is permitted only
15min to pump at work, which includes setup and cleanup. Last week they
had a meeting and refused to let her go until 45min later than usual. She
said she was so engorged her veins all popped out. She never leaks, so
there is no automatic release. Baby is 8wks old, and she is hoping her
supply will naturally downregulate. Most of what I know applies to moms
with bilateral oversupply, not this one-sided business.

What suggestions do you have to drastically cut supply in the left breast
while protecting the right breast?

All the best,
