Hello Friends,

I have a question about test weighing. I saw a mom last week. We did a naked
weight to determine intake at breast. The values were pre-feed 6 lb, 15.5 oz
and post-feed 7 lb 0.2 oz. Five days later we test weighed again because
baby was very lethrgic on one breast and mom was concerned his intake would
be low. The pre-feed weight was 7 lb 1.0 oz and post-feed weight was 7 lb
2.7 oz. So both test weights indicated 1.7 oz total intake which I think is
reaonable for a 7 lb baby feeding 10 times a day. But, mom was upset at the
second pre-feed weight of only 7.1 up only 0.8 oz from last weeks post-feed
weight. I reassured her that the two post-feed weights indicated at 2.5 oz
gain in 5v days, but I just want to make surethat is right. Would you
compare both pre-feed weights to determine baby's actual weight or both
post-feed weights, or exactly how do you determine overall weight gain with
these measurements. Baby was born 2/23 and weighed 7lb 12 oz but had
significant loss to 7 lb 2 oz and then 6 lb 12 before I saw him due to
tongue tie, low supply, ineffective feeds. Mom has nipples that just won't
pull out, not inverted or truly flat, just very tiny and hurt when he does
get a good suction and pulls hard. Is feeding with a nipple shield and
working with the evert-it daily. I put her in bed with baby for 24 hours and
told her to nurse non-stop and we will talk in the morning. I would like to
get her pumping 10 minutes after each feed to boost supply, but today she
was exhausted, stressed and crying. She has had no help available to her due
to unforseen circumstances.
I value you insights into this case.
