Hi all
This is partly a rant.
Yes, I too am getting very frustrated with the hospital work,
misinformation, mismanagement, sacrificing bf etc. I agree the best place to
make a difference is directly educating the parents. Also the MD-types
publishing as much as possible about bf, so we have acceptable (to other
MD-types) information/articles to share. I think Dr. Jack's book will be a
huge help too. You can share it with parents saying this is the latest info.
So sad to see that I seem to be "spinning my wheels" and in 3 yrs at this
hospital I don't see much changed where I work. In addition, our program
hours are being cut too, so services are getting cut too. I am a
perfectionist-type and the disorganization, broken promises, and lack of
management leadership is disheartening.
So I am seriously considering approaching a local 2-pediatrician practice
about working with them as the LC. (This would also save me a one-hour
commute each way). Please will those of you who do this contact me about the
best way to approach this. I am thinking about saying how this would be a
marketing plus for their practice to say they have an IBCLC. I would be able
to either [1] see all bf dyads on day 3-4 or [2] see pts with problems or
[3] see the families in hospital. These docs serve clients who use many
hospitals, 2 of the more frequented hospitals have no real bf program. I
would not be really sure how to bill for my services, I thought the office
could bill the insurer (if there was one) since I would be working closely
with the pedi, and pay me per consult. I really do appreciate any help any
of you can give me.
