I must say HEAR HEAR to Doraine Bailey's plea to use local costs if quoting
the $$$ outlay for formula.

No one in our area gives a hoot what the prices are in CHicago, since that
is not where they would buy them. I still am agog at the $855 cost quoted
by the AAP in their recent Work Group statement.

I went to a local store and wrote down all the prices and broke it down by
ounces, etc. and learned that EVEN THE CHEAPEST POWDER ends up costing
about $1,600 (!) for one year's worth! About TWICE what the AAP statement
suggested. By the way, the most expensive was over $5,000 for a year's
worth.

And this, of course, did not include the costs of bottles and nipple sets,
extra vitamins, extra doctor visits, possible hopsitalizations, etc.

When I compared those costs to renting a breast pump from me, the
differences in cost were astronomical! Again, you need to use YOUR costs,
not someone else's--unless you intend to refer your client to that other
person's business.

It is not difficult to do. It is well worth it to be able to show those
numbers to doubting Thomases and Thomasina's....
