From another post: "ALL nurses learn that patients swallow better when head
is elevated than flexed-this is a basic nursing concept." Which is funny,
because I'm in nursing school and so far this hasn't been emphasized ... on
top of which, I get to work with the moms who leave the local hospital and
come and see me ... pushing baby's nose into breast the whole time, with the
hand on the back of the skull. Sometimes basic nursing concept seems to get
lost in the muddle of what the nurse did/was taught about breastfeeding eons
ago (or last year in nursing school ... which is next to nothing). I guess,
as with anything, there are nurses who internalize the basic concepts and
manage to utilize throughout nursing practice, continually learning every
day and there are nurses who ... well, don't. I hope I end up being one who
does.
