Prozac has a very long half life. According to Hale 2002 ed. it is 2-3 days
(48-72 hours) but one of my nursing drug reference books (mosby 2002 ed)
states: "Peak 6-8 hours, metabolized in liver, excreted in urine, half-life
1-384 hours. steady state 28-35 days, protein binding 94%" This is pretty
scary considering how many women are on Prozac during pregnancy then are
switched to Paxil or zoloft which is "safer for baby". Stays on board quite
a while which must affect the baby in some way. If you have time to look up
Prozac in any nursing drug reference, it is very enlightening. It affects so
many CNS states and toxicity/effects of other meds.
