I would appreciate advice on a client I visited for first time today. Baby
is 3 months old. Breastfeeding has been going well up to this point. Mother
now complaining of blanching and throbbing of nipple for up to half hour
post feeding. Also complaining of occasional "syringe like " pain sensation
deep in lateral part of both breasts unrelated to feeding. Latch is perfect.
There are no signs of thrush in baby and mother's nipples are perhaps a
little pinker. I have discussed treatment of mother and baby for thrush. I
am curious about the association of blanching of the nipple with thrush. Is
it fairly common? Also in addition to the use of dry heat after the feeding,
are there other suggestions for this mother to minimize the problem? TIA
