I wanted to share some positive stories about breastfeeding in public. Kiana
is now three months old, and I take her everywhere with me - to work,
shopping, out to eat.... And it seems as if she has now nursed everywhere in
Portland, including the grocery store, hardware store, warehouse store, the
library, a zillion restaurants, numerous parking lots, driving down the
freeway with her in the carseat and me leaning over..... I've never had
anyone say anything to me about it (and although I don't flash it all, I've
never been able to nurse while covering her with a blanket). The best
experience I had was while shopping in Eddie Bauer. Kiana was started to get
fussy as I was shopping and a salesclerk asked if I was a nursing mom. When
I said yes, she said I could feel free to use one of their dressing rooms to
feed her if I needed to and to stay as long as I'd like. She even brought me
a stool to use for a foot stool! (I don't think she was afraid I was going
to "whip it out" in the store, she was really trying to be helpful). We so
often hear the negative, that I wanted to share the positive! :-D

By the way, Kiana is doing just great - thriving on mommy's milk, and I'm
thriving on motherhood! (Although having a baby in the house makes it a
little hard to keep up with Lactnet!)
