There has been some studies... you can read the article I wrote about 
dental caries on the LLL website... I think it does a pretty good job of 
summarizing the data we have on this issue and the reference section 
points to other articles/studies on the subject. 

I would assume that the likelihood of the 3 year old sharing bacteria 
with the newborn is pretty good, regardless of tandem nursing, and 
therefore breastfeeding/breastmilk would reduce the risk of cavities...
