It is heart rending to receive email notes about or from mothers needing
breastfeeding help.
Mothers and babies requiring breastfeeding help need the services of a
certified professional lactation consultant. You can do this by having her
write to [log in to unmask] for a referral to a local IBCLC, who can then
professionally assess the situation, and assist her. Another way to do this
is to have the mother call 1 800 TELL YOU which is Medela's Breastfeeding
National Network. Breastfeeding professionals can be located through this
free service.
IBCLCs need time and space to work and assist a mom professionally, in
order to ensure the best outcome for both mother and baby. Local referrals
are the way to ensure this high level of care. Additionally, Lactnet is a
place for professionals to learn. Most professionals make referrals to other
local professionals in order to ensure a high level of service and outcome.
As reimbursement is an issue in our profession, this is an issue for all
of us who have put our hearts into helping mother. Let's support the
profession, and help mothers to the best of our abilities by making
referrals to our colleagues in other communities or countries.
Thanks! Have a good day.
