What a bizarre circumstance with the selenium...how did it happen?? Having
an elevated ANA level should not have any impact on breastfeeding; it also
does not definitively diagnose her as having lupus...I've been taught that
one should not fish for rheumatological diagnoses unless  the patient has
clear symptomatology that justify the need for a diagnosis, as it is easy
to come up with positive tests in a well person. If she has alot of
symptoms, such as fatigue, rashes, hair loss, weight loss, fevers,
arthralgias, then she should see her doctor for a proper work up. If she
does have lupus, she can still breastfeed, as long as she is not on any
strong immunosuppresants.-Anne Eglash MD
