About anesthetic with frenulum clipping:

I have had a few cases in which a doctor anesthetized the frenulum before
the clipping. In each case, the baby couldn't suckle at the breast for a
while, which is recommended following the clipping. The mothers said that
it seemed that their mouths were numb.

My ENT who does most of the clipping in my practice, does not anesthetize.
The procedure is so quick and he has the mother prepared to feed the baby
at the breast immediately. If it is a baby who is not at breast yet, he
has the baby suck on mother's index finger for a while.
