On Tuesday evening, a patient of mine accidentally consumed Veratrum, aka
Devil’s Bite, thinking it was ramps. (They has foraged the plant).

It apparently contains an alkaloid toxin in it that has maybe 24-72 hour
half life, no one could give clear guidance and recommended pumping and
dumping 72 hours.

Any thoughts re: is it safe to resume nursing sooner than 72h?

She is nursing her 15 mo old who of course thinks holding off on
breastfeeding is terrible advice.

Note: Pt ended up in ER. 6 hours of hypotension and bradycardia, needed
fluids and also got digifab(a reversing agent for digitalis). Husband was
much sicker and was in the ICU...released last night.
