Actually Lisa, I beg to differ on this with you regarding when vasospasm
occcurs. My current challenge raynaud's patient blanches spontaneously
anytime, irregardless of whether the baby is nursing. Then the question is,
is her vasospasm of the nipples related at all to the fact that she is
nursing ...I was talking to a rheumatologist yesterday who has been in
practice for at least 20 years, and he has never run across a raynauds
patient who had blanching of the nipples who was not nursing,...and neither
have I. So, I guess what I am saying is that I think the diagnosis of
raynauds can be considered more likely if the symptoms of vasospasm occur
not only when the baby is at the breast, but in between to...and I have
noticed this with every lactating raynauds patient I've had. It makes alot
more sense to me that if the nipples just blanch with nursing, that it is a
suck issue. Thanks Lisa--Anne Eglash MD
