With no authoritative information to offer you, I'm going to be that the
frequency is the same -- but each one is just much less of a big deal,
because you don't have the same fussing over chair, pillows, drink, quiet,
latch, etc -- It's more impulsive, even if at the same time it's also falling
into more of a by-default schedule. You know, after the big sister gets on
the school bus there's that quiet snuggle time and you end up nursing; and
then around midmorning after a long play you suddenly get tired and need a
little suck; and so on.
I also think frequency varies more, because the extent to which babies are
nursing for pure hunger -- as opposed to all the other reasons that blend
into it -- is more and more variable as babies increase their solids
consumption at such very different rates; and ditto thirst as some babies
love that grown-up cup of water at the table, and some just want to drink a
little mom with their peas and carrots, etc.
All of that goes to *amount* of nursing and *timing* of nursing more than
*frequency* of nursing, though.
