I have also been talking a look at older babies who loose weight I have noticed as well that infrequent feedings are common as well. These are some of the main points that I have picked up on:

1)Parents talk with other parents who are formula feeding and learn that there babies are eating 6oz bottles roughly 4-5 times a day so when they see their baby who still wants to eat every 2 hours they believe something is wrong and start to try to 'entertain' their fussy babies with toys or other activities to hold them off a little longer. These also happens during the night time as well because the 'other' baby is now sleeping 8 hours a night.

2) Babies became distracted and nurse for much shorter time periods, pulling off frequently to look, smile and play with mom and mother takes this as a sign that baby is not hungry.

I have also wondered if babies had monthly weight check up at the doctors if it would help to catch this babies slower weight gain much quicker instead of the 75% growth line at 2 months and then the 10% growth line at 4 or 6 months. At this point doctors tend to freak out and parents leave the office with 2 cans of formula to 'supplement after every breastfeeding'.
