Hi all,
I have a question from our local public health nurse whose client has a 4
day old baby diagnosed with idiopathic thrombocytopenia. The neonatologist
has told her that the babies platelet count won't come down until she quits
breastfeeding because she may be passing platelet inhibitors through her
milk. The experience of this nurse dealing with another client whose baby
had the same diagnosis was positive when breastfeeding continued. The
archives turned up nothing. Do any of you know of any research or
references in this area, something we can pass back to the mother and
perhaps on to the neonatologist? Thanks,
Jennifer
