Lee and Pam: I have always maintained that "engorgement" is NOT the norm.
When I discuss "milk coming in" with a mom, I always state: "Your breasts will
begin to feel some heaviness and fullness." The only baby of my 3 that I
expreienced the classic engorgement syndrome with was my 1st. She was my
only C/S baby and 26 years ago there was a ton of separation going on, as
well as no rooming in, although I did keep her with me more than the usual at
the time. My other 2 babies (unmedicated VBACs) were nursing non-stop from
minute one and I never really did feel any real noticeable fullness with them
either. Both gained beautifully from the beginning. Maybe we need to be
careful how and when we are using the term engorgement.
