Is it tight?  this can make for very painful feeds for mom and exhausting for
baby since the babies have to fight the inclination of the tongue to be in
the mouth, it is hard for them to keep the tongue out as they are constantly
fighting the tight frenulum.  I notice these babies drop off the breast
frequently.
If it's not that, Have you tried a nipple shield?
