Dear Lactnetters, and Valerie,
Valerie McClain's excellent points about genetical engineering of human milk content for profit (and other points) would form the scientific framework for a *very* good science-fiction story. Oh to have the skills to write fiction (which I don't). Anyone out there like to try?!
Sometimes the best way to tell the truth to the public is to tell it as fiction. Dickens stimulated community concern by fictionalizing instances of 19th-century social conditions in England, after getting little response when these cases were reported (as journalism) in his paper, The Examiner, as well as in numerous Parliamentary Reports. When people relate to a character and their imaginations are involved, they can sometimes take on board what they might not from a report.
There is so much in the points raised by Valerie, which could be used by a skilled sci-fi writer. Anyone keen to try?
