Hi Carole,
I agree with you that infant development is a guide to when they should
start solids.  I think that not only should they need to have the oral
motor skills to handle solids, but should be able to "sit up, pick it up
with her fingers, and put it in her own mouth and chew it" as I tell
Moms.
