> Permission to post: mom presented with general soreness during feed that was better with position and latch assistance on 4 days PP from csection due to breech presentation. When after 2 days healing was not much better she was encouraged to seek antibiotics to help with soreness and healing. OB denied because no sign of infection (sigh) and mom began to have engorgement that was relieved with hand expression and baby still could feed and be content. Rushed to mom yesterday with obvious pus drainage in both breasts via hand expression and luckily OB had given meds night before and now ordered labs (WBC a 12) and IM shot of Rocefin. Appt with surgeon today at 1030 for possible I&D or needle aspiration. I have asked for a culture to rule out MRSA as well. My question: baby had been feeding, still is feeding, and mom wants to keep baby at breast. OB said to pump and not give any more bacteria to breasts, ped didn't mind if still nursed.....literature found goes both ways. It's obvious mom has ruptured an abscess into her ductal system, can she feed??? Email and respond here please.
