Hi Molly,
It might not hurt, but then again, milk is not meant to be in the inner ear.
It is meant to be in the GI tract. So I would not recommend it be placed in
the ear. (Although I have recommended it for eye and stuffy nose and used it
myself on my own -- just a few drops).
As I am a medically-trained person, I would use the antibiotics. You ask
about consequences; I have known 2 people who died from untreated ear and
tooth infections, respectively, which in both cases it led to meningitis;
and my own mother nearly died from meningitis when she had a recurrent ear
infection which progressed to the bone and then. I am very scared,
therefore, not to treat those types of problems with antibiotics.
Of course, I am sure you know, there is alot of info about not using
antibiotics and so the mother could explore other options. Of which I am not
well versed.
