I need your wisdom - please!!
Here are "the facts":
32 year old second time mom - first baby did not breastfeed ("baby refused"), second child (both girls) - now 8 months old and breastfed. Baby is also on rice cereal and some fruits. In the past 4 months, baby has developed congestion (clear mucous - esp. in the morning), coughing (until she gags and throws up the mucous), and a eczema type rash on her face, wrists, etc. Mom took baby to allergist - did allergy testing. Found baby is allergic to wheat, soy and eggs. Mom does not feel she can cut all of this out of her diet and the allergist told her, if she didn't, she had to quit BF. She was told to wean to milk-based formula - mom called me today - baby is refusing bottle :)
Questions:
1. Does it make sense that enough egg, wheat and soy gets through her breast milk to cause such severe symptoms in the baby?
2. Does anyone have a diet this mom could try?
3. If she does wean - is milk based formula the best choice?
4. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!!
