If the mother pushes in with her forearm on the baby's bottom while
her hand is actually on the baby's face, the baby's weight is taken by
her forearm, not her hand. I often demonstrate to the mother that
using this refinement, I can support the baby's head from falling with
one finger. Thus, aggravation of the carpal tunnel syndrome, or
difficulty holding the baby this way, should be less of an issue.
