Kind of long and not totally lactational oriented so skip if you like.

An ironic thread, (to me)the mother who is pumping for her husband.

Just last night I began to search the archives for information on the
article in Discover magazine (found it). Only found two hits, but a nephew
needed my computer. Today I punched in just 'Cancer' from 1997-2000 and got
50 hits.

My father's health has been failing, pain in his back (was told it was
arthritis a while ago), cholesterol high, chronic high blood pressure (on 3
types of pills plus a patch), gout, a couple of mini-strokes, and one of his
carotid arteries was stripped in 1989 but it is again blocked. After going
on a low cholesterol diet and Lipitor for 40 days in January he lost weight
and the cholesterol went down a bit but he developed severe intestinal
cramping so stopped the Lipitor. His own doctor doesn't seem concerned but
the pain lasted two weeks so he went to an urgent care, they scheduled an
ultrasound and they have found a cyst on each kidney (FEB 18th). Dad didn't
make an appointment with the specialist they referred him to, he said he
could wait for his appt. with his regular doctor in March. It is not until
the 10th. I think he is afraid to go sooner. The intestinal pain is still
with him.

We are all worried. Seeing too many in our family leave us with cancer.
I have thought for a long time that if, again, cancer strikes, I would want
to provide breastmilk to help. So, that is why I, too, have been searching
for what can be found here. Of course, I would have to do the induced
lactation regimine too, since I only nurse once a day now and my son is 4.4
years old.

Maka, my prayers are with your friend and her family, I hope she is able to
help her husband.

Cheryl
