Went to conference today and one of the discussions of course was the
differences between formula and bm. This conference really made me think
and it was interesting. While I was there I thought about when I went to
WIC in the Bronx a little while back. While I was there I luckily
observed a consultation. Mother commented that she gave one bottle a day
of formula and that her baby(I think 3 weeks old) didn't like the
formula. I asked if she ever tasted formula. She said no. The LC then
shortly explained how formula is made. You know, they take the cow milk
and dry it out and then put all that stuff in it.
Well, anyway I have tried formula and bm because I felt I should test and
sample them out. EEEWWWW formula is gross. Breast milk is truelly
sweet. (it was my own). I know some of you have tried it. It may be
interesting to ask mothers to try them and see what they say if and when
they do. I feel that formula is fast food and bm is a steak. : )
Another thought, isn't it interesting to hear how some mothers gave
numbers of formulas to their baby because of allergies but they never
tried the tailor made to humans...breast milk? Hmmmm?

Breastfeeding: A Woman's Choice? This was a great article created by a
student, a woman. I think it was at Cornell. I found it on the internet
one day. Couldn't find it for you because I think the articles on the
site expire after a certain time. I would scan it but my scanner doesn't
work. Sorry. It generally says that breastfeeding is very natural,
womanly and feminine. When a mother gives birth to her baby there are all
these outside influences - medical professionals, friends, family, formula
ads that discourage her from doing what comes so natural to a new mother
and that is to nurse.

Just wanted to share this with all of you

Claudine
