Kristi,

Are they thinking that the fenugreek is interfering with the clearance of the medication? I think it is important to start with understanding what the doctor is thinking. Also, are you thinking that the mastitis bouts are related to something here?

You did not mention why mom was taking fenugreek to begin with. Is her pumping frequency good but she still is not producing enough? Is she using a good pump?

Regarding fenugreek, I would like to suggest doing a little digging for possible herb-drug interactions. One possible resource is the PDR for Herbal Medicines (though it is not the last word on the topic!). Another resource I really like is Herbal Medicines in Pregnancy and Lactation by Mills, Dugoua, Perri and Koren. There is also Aviva Romm, author of Botanical Medicine for Women's health, who would be a great person to contact. My quick check did not find any mention of anti-seizure meds and fenugreek interactions.

In the meantime, consider that fenugreek is not the only option out there. There are other foods and herbs that can be helpful. And there is domperidone. This should not be a fenugreek or nothing choice. Do your homework, then bring your info to the doctor with your suggestions.
