Sorry about the first two posts that I sent prematurely. Guess my hand is a
little ahead of my brain.

Anyways, we have made a pitch to the MD's to avoid supplementing to prevent
jaundice and for other non-medical reasons. We now find that we need to use
a tool for all staff members to use to help assess how breastfeeding is going
and also a way for all to chart. We have decided that breast well, fair or
poor just isn't specific enough.

I have reviewed the archives and read the comments about this subject. I am
wondering what tools others in the hospital setting are using and what they
feel are the positives and negatives of that system.
We now use the Mother-Baby Assessment and I do like it.
I especially like the idea that we are assessing both the mom and the baby.
We are trying to decide how we can both provide the info for the chart and
also for our own records, without charting in two places or use a sheet with
4 carbons,as we have to have a place for nursing to chart.

Interested in how other, much wiser ones are doing this.
TIA,
Judy IBCLC in COLD upstate NY
