Jennifer said: I wish I could loan every new mom a day with an experienced,
happy
older baby! Since that's probably out of the question, what are some ideas
others are using to promote continued breastfeeding out there?

Jennifer Tieman
Family Physician
Mom to 4, including nursling Caroline Rose, born 5/31/03

Taking Caroline to work with you was the first thing that came to mind. I
know, folks come in who are ill. But on days with well baby visits and with
someone available to care for her....

Second thing was having framed photos of real babies and mothers in the
office and waiting room breastfeeding. To accustom the eye to it happening and
being part of life.

And yes, it's important support be the when it's needed. A lactation
consultant in a doctor's office is invaluable. If a mother calls the office with
questions, and comes in, the appointment could be for a day when an LC is
present. The LC could make follow-up calls to all mothers a few days post-discharge.

All the suggestons for having a place/time for moms to be together with their
babies are invaluable.
