Has anyone else seen a correlation between mitten use and poor nursing?

What brought it to my attention was a baby who'd had a rocky start -
non-latching, then a frenectomy that resulted in a cut tongue tip (laser
used sagittally, not scissors used transversely) - but who was still
having odd, fluctuating difficulties at 6 weeks. Mom's supply was fine.

Whenever they came to my house, he had mittens on. I'd have them take them
off along with outer wraps (it was winter), and he usually did fine here.
At 6 weeks, he was beginning to "turn off", according to his parents -
hadn't nursed all day and had stopped making eye contact with his mother.
They came over, took the coat and mittens off, and he nursed fine. Slow
learner, I finally discovered that the mittens were used continuously at
home, and urged their total discontinuation. That was a turning point for
the baby's nursing behavior. The only real change was the mittens.

Just wondered if anyone else has seen the same.
