This is a subject near to my heart as I suffered from anxiety and depression while nursing a baby. When I took meds, my baby was older than this (almost a year), and as a further disclaimer, I have no medical training, just experience as a LLLL, but a mom who did a lot of rearch (for myself) into this topic.
Look up BuSpar in Hale (I have 2006 and it is on page 115). It has a pretty short half life(4.8 hours), though it is not reviewed- it is an L3.
What I found nice about this drug for anxiety treatment personally, is #1- it worked (for me), and #2- it treats the anxiety without making you sleepy or giving you any "high" or drugged like feeling. It is said to be simliar to diazepam (Valium), but is non-sedating and not addictive. I think the non-sedating is important, because the last thing a sleep deprived new mom needs is something that is going to knock her out or make her more tired. It seems to me a care-taker (breastfeeding or not) should remain as alert as possible.
Hope this helps-
