I have to say that I am a bit disconcerted by the anecdotal evidence being
presented in support of waterbeds. Just because one or a number of people
have used waterbeds while sleeping with a baby, this does *not* make it
okay. It makes you lucky. Note I am not flaming or blaming! I just don't
like the unscientific nature of anecdotes.
We get very offended when this sort of thinking is presented to sabotage
breastfeeding: "I fed all my kids formula and they turned out okay."
I guess if you're the practitioner advising parents, you could go over the
ways in which they could try to make co-sleeping safer in a water bed, and
the anecdotes presented here would be helpful in that regard. But it is
uncomfortable to see us decrying the unscientific approach when it *hurts*
breastfeeding, and accepting that very same approach when we see it as
supportive of breastfeeding.
