This young woman has great insight into what is going on with guilt and
breasfeeding! I agree with her statement that women who fail and
breastfeeding seem to feel more angry at the poor/inconsistent advice and
the lack of ANY advice they are given.

It's such a tough thing to do! When a 2-3 day post partum mother is ready to
give up breastfeeding, the LC of course, tries to convince her otherwise.
I've known too many women who "failed" at nursing, and later felt great
remorse that they didn't try a little harder or longer and felt angry at the
lack of support and/or information. But at the time they make the decision,
sometimes the LC that is trying to support her gets reported to the
pediatrician or unit manager for being a "nipple nazi" or the mother tells
people that the LC MADE me breastfeed. I've never yet heard one who was
successful in the long run complain, though. Conversely, they usually are
grateful for the help and support they were given that got through the tough
times. Only the ones who ultimately give up or "fail" continue to complain.
