HEADLINE: Being Here: An Advocate of Lactose Tolerance [heavily edited]

BYLINE: By Arline Klatte

"Do you mind if I nurse?" Olivia Hilton asks as she plops down on her cushy
white couch in her apartment at the U.S. Embassy. In seconds, her right breast
is discreetly inserted into the mouth of Meredith, her 15-month-old girl...

...By day, she's the assistant press attache at the U.S. Embassy. By
night, and
in her spare time, she promotes breast-feeding through her work with the
international nonprofit organization La Leche League. The group, which says it
has 100,000 [international] members in any given month, offers education
and support to nursing
mothers. And Hilton, 34, is making her own contribution: last December, she held
the first Moscow LLL meeting...

...Hilton and her friend, colleague and LLL co-hort Kaara
Ettlesvelt, who is
nursing her 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Ksenia, says they are confident that the
Moscow La Leche League will grow...

... While both women say that breast-feeding is more accepted in Moscow
than in
the United States, they want to educate women in a time when giant baby formula
companies from the West are flooding the Russian market with their high-tech
products....

...Hilton and her husband Robert, also a diplomat, have been in Moscow
for six
months and plan to stay for three years....
