It is ABSOLUTELY imperative that our profession clearly defines what the GOLD standards are of an IBCLC! In fact, we should be screaming at the top of our lungs..

Otherwise, our profession will lose all credibility that has been gained AND sitting for the IBCLE board exam will have no merit! Heck, being a CLC is easy, why would I want to spend the money becoming board certified, if I could practice with less credentials?? I researched the Advanced Practice Lactation Nurse curriculum and was completely shocked when I discovered this credential doesn't compare to the highest standards of what an IBCBC is, in MANY ways. Why on earth would I want to waste my time and money on this credentail as an IBCLC?

I have been in Private Practice for several years now and I am becoming disillusioned with the polorazitation that exsists in the lactation field. There is room for ALL of us but I often wonder what our future is?

I see the field becoming like the medical nursing model : Advanced Practice Nurse (NP) Registered Nurse (RN) Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

IBCLC CLC CBE and so on. Problem is, we do not have licensure!

If I can protect one baby and mommy from missing the opportunity of reaping enormous health benefits from breastfeeding....I will NOT shrink back from this fire.
