Subject: Re: Formula for Disaster

Samples of formula have not been available in the UK for 20 years or
more. It is illegal to give a sample. If a mother needs formula and
is not prepared with it in the house, there are ways to get it -
supermarkets are open 24 hours, and if a trip there is not possible,
anyone truly desperate would be given a bottle from hospital stock
and no one would argue with that.

Heather states, "And just a reminder which you won't need, but others forget
- it
isn't 'free'.....it is paid for by the cost of the formula to
mothers, and by their health and the health of their babies, yes,
every last pen, notepad and tape measure."

You're right, Heather, I do not need the reminder, however, apparently the
hospitals do. They do NOT care if the health of the mom & baby are in danger
(therefore requiring more days off for moms to be home with sick babies
and/or more $$$ spent by the insurance companies or the state for their
health issues) or if the parents pay an extremely high cost for the bare
minimum in formula. It only matters to the HCP's that THEY (personally) do
not have to pay for those things and of course, everyone (MD's, nurses, etc)
just loves to "give" something to the new moms!!! Again, it makes me
nauseous!
